Congrats! You now have access to a set of steps to craft a world-class LinkedIn
profile. Let's begin!
1. Ensure your LinkedIn URL is customized. Remove the random alpha-numeric
string that is attached to your URL by default.
2. Add an attractive background image to your profile that is relevant to your line of
work. Use Unsplash.com, Pexels.com or Canva.com.
3. Add a professionally shot image of yourself. Do not use a passport photograph!
Wear a jacket or professional attire. Zoom in to your face - eyes should be clearly
visible. And smile warmly into the camera!
4. Use the line under your name to craft your value statement - what is the value
you bring to the next hiring organization. Add up to 3 keywords. This is not a
place for your designation.
5. Fill in the sections on what services you provide and turn on the 'Creator' Mode.
6. Spend time on your 'About' section - it's the most important section of your
profile. Write about your professional and personal self. Project yourself as
Unique, Interesting & Impressive. Start with a 'hook' and end with your contact
email address and number.
7. Write your experience section from an output perspective. Detail what you
achieved, rather than what you were responsible for.
8. In the experience section don't reveal confidential data. And write short
sentences since the reader is scanning the text. Add multi-media wherever
applicable.
9. Get at least 10 recent recommendations (from the last 3 years) from senior
professionals in your industry. If you’re a fresher get them from your past
professors.
10. Join at least 3 LinkedIn groups in your professional field and be active there.
11. Use your mobile phone to log in to your account and record how your name
should be pronounced.

12. Sign up for many online courses in your field and mention them in the courses
section.
13. Be active on LinkedIn and write one post a week related to your professional
area. Use relevant images and avoid links taking people outside of LinkedIn.
14. Participate in other people’s post – it boosts your visibility, and the LinkedIn
algorithm likes it.
15. Be helpful to others, share content that others on LinkedIn will find valuable.
16. Promote yourself subtly and build your brand. That’s what LinkedIn is meant for.
17. Find influencers in your niche and comment on their posts for accelerated
visibility.
18. Make writing on LinkedIn a weekly or (preferably) a daily habit. In the long run it
will pay you back many times over.
